RELEASED FROM BONDAGE

“Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.”
LUKE 17:4 NIV

Can you think of a conflict in your past that remains unforgiven?

When people wound us, it’s easy for bitterness to creep into our hearts if we aren’t careful. Far too often, we ignore the Bible’s wisdom and seek out destructive means for justice.

But understand, when your mind is consumed with resentment, it is fertile soil for the enemy. He amplifies your anger by saying, “You’ve been hurt; it’s all right to be upset. Keep punishing that person in your heart—it’s what he deserves.” And as long as you allow Satan’s bitter, unforgiving messages, you will continue to sink into the mire of self-pity and bondage.

But friend, that’s not Jesus’ desire for you, which is why He always commands you to forgive. You are not punishing the offender or holding him accountable. You are only hurting yourself—it is you who have been prisoner all along.

Therefore, if you’re holding grudges against people, loose the chains of anger that bind you to them. Forgive them and find freedom.

Lord, reveal any unforgiveness I’m harboring. Free me from any chains that have held me captive, amen.

In His presence . . . find freedom through forgiveness.
