God knows that in the day you eat of [the tree of knowledge] your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.
GENESIS 3:5 NKJV
Satan deceived Eve by using a subtle form of manipulation. First he said, “Eve, you’re going to be like God, knowing good and evil.” Unfortunately, he didn’t go on to say, “But you’re going to despise the day you learned the truth about sin and death.”
Every time you choose to disobey the Lord, you are exhibiting pride—the attitude that declares to omniscient God that you know better than He does. Isn’t that foolish?
But be warned—everyone is capable of falling. Just as Satan deceived Eve into feeding her pride, he can lure you with the promise of pleasure without penalty—of meeting your own needs without seeking God’s provision. Don’t fall for his tricks.
You will never know better than your heavenly Father. So turn to Him often, obey Him, and always make sure to stay in the center of His will.
Father, I confess my curiosity, independence, and pride. Let my attention be always on You, amen.
In His presence . . . lay down your pride and obey Him.
